Sight Machine

Sight Machine is a collaboration with San Francisco’s legendary Kronos Quartet.

While the Kronos Quartet perform works by Terry Riley, Laurie Anderson, Steve Reich, Islam Chipsy and others, the musicians are monitored by cameras feeding into a suite of Artificial Intelligence algorithms. Images of what the machines “see” while looking at the performers are projected onto a screen behind the performers.

We first performed Sight Machine in a vacant old shipbuilding warehouse in San Francisco with support from Obscura Digital. Sight Machine was initially funded by the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University under Allison Gass.

Production still.

We’ve performed Sight Machine at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam (2018), the Smithsonian American Art Museum in DC (2018), and the Barbican Center in London (2019).

The performance evolves quite a bit each time we do it.

Some more info about it is on Wired magazine.
